Family Mediation & Collaborative Law

Divorce and separation often give rise to a number of practical issues that need to be resolved, including dividing your finances and making arrangements for children. If not handled the right way, these issues can lead to a lot of conflict, becoming time consuming and expensive to resolve.

Our solicitors specialise in alternative dispute resolution for families dealing with the issues surrounding divorce and relationship breakdown. This means we can usually find a non-confrontational way to sort out these important matters, keeping conflict to a minimum and allowing you to move on faster while saving money on legal costs.

Family mediation and collaborative law can both allow you to avoid the stress and uncertainty of court proceedings as well as helping you to maintain a better relationship with your former partner – something that can be highly beneficial if you have children together.

Our family dispute resolution services

We offer two main approaches to non-confrontational family dispute resolution, either of which can be a good option depending on your circumstances.

Family mediation

We work with a number of leading family mediators who can provide a neutral third-party to facilitate discussions between you and your former partner over issues such as financial settlements and arrangements for children.

This approach can be a good choice where you have a positive relationship with your ex-partner and the issues you need to resolve are relatively straightforward.

Collaborative law

This is often the best approach where there are more complex issues to resolve or you simply want the reassurance of having your own lawyer with you during negotiations to ensure your interests are protected at all times.

Collaborative law involves a serious of ‘round the table’ meetings between you and your ex-partner, each supported by your own lawyer (who must have specialist training in collaborative law). This can allow you to amicably negotiate the details of your financial settlement, arrangements for children and any other practical matters that need to be resolved.
